Database currently contains 3,122 monsters.
This database does not contain monster stats or images. It is essentially an index to allow you to quickly return a selection of monsters filtered by criteria with the specific goal of giving you a book and page number to look them up. You can search by as few or as many criteria as you wish. Click the name of each element for further instructions on how to use and what it will return.
Your search term will automatically be wildcarded on either side, so searching for goblin will return both goblins and hobgoblins. Where sensible, creatures have been prefixed, for example, searching beholder will also return gauth. Search is case insensitive. If you are not sure about hyphens, search for the logical part of the word. For example, Yuan will retun all yuan-ti entries where yuanti will not.
Searching by Challenge Rating will exclude anything outside the selected ranges, minimum on the left, maximum on the right. Setting a 6 in the left box will return anything CR 6 or higher. Setting a 10 in the right box will return anything CR 10 or lower. Putting both in together will return anything between CR 6 and 10 inclusive. Partial CRs are considered to be CR 0, so placing a zero in the right box will return all partial CRs. The returned entries will show the correct partial CRs. Set both values the same to search for a single CR.
As with CR, searching by size will exlude anything outside the chosen values, lower than the left option or greater than the right. A value of small on the left and huge on the right will return small, medium, large and huge monsters. Set both values the same to search for a single size category.
Searching by type is straightforward as DnD monsters are single typed. Currently, you can only search for a single type at once. This may change in the future if it's a feature enough people require.
Search by subtype with an and/or operator in the form of any/all. Searching any Fire and Evil will trigger OR logic, returning monsters with the fire subtype and monsters with the evil subtype. Searching all Fire and Evil will trigger AND logic, returning only those monsters that are both Fire subtype AND Evil subtype.
Alignment has the Law to Chaos axis on the left and the Good to Evil axis on the right. You can set one or both to filter by. Set both to neutral for true neutral. I'm still trying to work out a better way to display them in the results.
Search by environment will filter by that specific environment. Many monsters in the book have no default terrain listed and are in the database as Any Any. These will NOT show up in a filtered search, only an unfiltered one. So if you search Cold, you will get back any monster that has its climate specifically set to cold but will not return monsters listed as Any. Likewise, setting warm forests will only return monsters with those exact settings and will not return monsters that have Any Warm or Any Forest. At some point in the future I will try find a way to have a toggle to include the anys in a search so that you can choose which logic you prefer.
Search by home plane or trait. This is quite complex. For example, searching any evil will not only return monsters whose home plane is listed as Any Evil but also those from The Abyss, Baator, etc... Likewise, searching The Abyss will also return monsters with entries like Any Outer, Any Evil, Any Lower. Inner planes are the six elemental planes. Outer planes are the named planes like The Abyss. Transitive planes are the Astral, Ethereal, Shadow and Mirror. The Upper and Lower planes are as defined on the Faerun wiki.
Very simple. Any books you click will be included in the search. Any you do not click will not. Leave unchecked to allow everything.
